Q - What age group do you provide care for?
A - Children must be in grade one (or full-day kindergarten) and under the age of 13.
Q - When do you provide care?
A - We provide care Monday to Friday:
- After school from 2:30pm - 6:00pm
- All day (8:00am - 6:00pm) on District-Wide ProD Days and Private School ProD Days
- We do not provide care on Statutory Holidays
- We are closed during Christmas Break and Spring Break (Spring Break Camps are available at an additional cost)
Q - Do you provide part-time care?
A - Yes, as long as the days of the week remain consistent (example - Mon/Wed/Fri care)
Q - What schools do you pick up at?
A - We pick up at a number of schools in the bowl. For the 2009/2010 school year we are picking up at:
- Sacred Heart, Van Bien, College Heights, Quinson, Highglen, Spruceland, Heritage, Ron Brent, Harwin, Pinewood and St. Mary's
- We may consider additional schools that are in the bowl area. Phone the museum for more information.
Q - What is the cost of childcare?
A - Full-time care with shuttle service costs $355 per month. Part-time fees are calculated on a daily basis. $18 per day for care and shuttle service. Additional fees may be charged for NID's that are not on the school district calendar or early dismissals. A discount applies to families with two or more children registered for full-time care. The discount is $40 per month per child.
Q - What full days are included in the cost of full-time care?
A - We only provide full day care on Pro D days that are set out on the School District 57 Calendar/Private School Calendar in September. We are closed during Christmas Break and Spring Break.
Q - Do you accept government subsidy?
A - Yes, forms can be found online on the BC Government site or at Child Care Resource and Referral (CCRR) which is located at 2020 Massey - phone 250.563.2483.
Q - Are you a licenced child-care facility?
A - Yes, we are.
Q - How do I register?
A - You can register by phoning the museum and speaking with Stephanie (ext 243). You will need to pay a $75 non-refundable/non-transferable deposit for each child to hold your spot. This deposit will go towards your first months fees. You must also complete our registration package before your child can attend our care.
Q - May I come in for a tour of the childcare space?
A - Of course, phone the museum and ask for Stephanie to set up a time. We will also have an open-house day in September for parents and children registered for the Fall.
Q - What qualifications do your staff have?
A - The Exploration Place hires staff based on their ability to work well with children and their past experience in child-care settings. All staff members are at least 19 years of age. Upon hiring, all child-care staff members will work towards completing child-safe first aid and 20 hours of child care training. This training covers topics such as child development, guidance, health and safety, and/or nutrition.
