PRINCE GEORGE, BRITISH COLUMBIA – To celebrate Mr. PG’s recent 65th birthday, The Exploration Place is spreading a little extra joy to some of Prince George and the region’s youngest residents. Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor, the museum donated a selection of Mr. PG plush toys and train-themed gift bundles to the pediatric ward at the University Hospital of Northern BC.
Each gift bundle includes a train bag, engineer hat, wooden whistle, Mr. PG thumb puppet, and a child’s ticket for a ride on the Little Prince Steam Engine in Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park. A supply of the museum’s popular Mr. PG plush toys was also delivered, offering a cuddly source of comfort to children receiving care.
“Mr. PG has always represented the heart of Prince George. I wanted to celebrate his 65th birthday in a way that would bring joy to local kids and families, especially those going through a tough time,” says the donor, who wishes to remain anonymous. “Supporting this donation felt like the perfect way to do that.”
“We’re so grateful to our donor for making this donation possible and marking this milestone with kindness and care for local families,” says Alyssa Leier, Executive Director of The Exploration Place.
The gift shop merchandise was selected to bring a bit of fun and familiarity to children in hospital. The donation also serves as a reminder of Mr. PG’s lasting impact in the community. Sixty-five years after his debut, he’s still bringing smiles.
“On behalf of UHNBC, our dedicated staff, and, most importantly, the children and families in our pediatrics ward, we extend our deepest gratitude to the Donor and The Exploration Place. Your generosity will touch countless lives, bringing hope, comfort, and joy to our young patients,” says Sarah Christensen on behalf of UHNBC. “The iconic Mr. PG stuffie and train bags will undoubtedly be a huge hit with the kids, creating moments of happiness during their hospital stay. Support from donors and local businesses like yours allows us to continue spreading smiles and making a meaningful difference in the lives of our patients. Thank you for your kindness and commitment to our community!”
