About This Funded Opportunity:
Please note that the Work Experience Placement will receive a stipend. This is not a wage or salary. This position is funded by the United Way Work Experience Opportunities Grant and is open to individuals who receive or are eligible for BCEA/PWD (or federal equivalent for on-reserve) and/or face barriers to employment. The focus of grant funding is to support individuals who are recipients or eligible to receive income or disability assistance and who may have barriers to labour market participation. Who are we looking for?
We are seeking enthusiastic, outgoing, and motivated people to ensure the daily running of Origins Kitchen. The ideal candidate is organized, has great customer service skills and is willing to learn. Everyone plays a role in The Exploration Place’s daily operations. You will be joining a team of enthusiastic and passionate individuals whose goal is to work together for the success of all departments and have fun doing it!
What are the hours?
A regular workday is 8 hours, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break.
About the job:
Daily operations could include working as a barista, cashier, expeditor, prep, or dishwasher as needed. This position may include making quality beverages or specialty hot drinks, preparing food orders, working the cash register, as well as cleaning and stocking the café. Tasks are completed in a timely and efficient manner while also providing positive customer service to guests.
The successful applicants may be responsible for any of the following:
- Preparing a variety of tea, coffee, drinks
- Greeting customers, making them feel welcome
- Ensuring all applicable policies, procedures and regulations are followed
- Answering questions
- Processing transactions, handling cash, processing debit/credit cards using a web-based POS system
- Delivering excellent customer service
- Preparing basic ingredients and food items such as children’s lunch boxes
- Serving a variety of prepared food items such as soup, sandwiches, salads, and baked goods
- Monitoring inventory and maintaining grocery list
- Assisting in processing, checking, and stocking inventory shipments as needed
- Ensuring station is kept clean and orderly including café surfaces, floors, equipment, dishes, and utensils are tidy and sanitized on a regular schedule
- Change station garbage and recycling bins as needed
- Deep clean station areas according to rotating cleaning schedule
- Sanitize and wash dishes and other items by hand
- Sweep and mop floors
- Representing the Museum with the utmost integrity, exemplifying the values and mission of our organization
- Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, skills, and abilities we are looking for:
- Canadian Citizenship or permanent resident status
- Willing to submit to a criminal record check
- Able to communicate in a confident, kind, tactful, and professional manner with visitors and staff
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, customer-oriented facility, in cooperation with other staff and departments
- Ability to work closely and communicate respectfully with The Exploration Place team at large
- Must be dependable and committed to carrying out your responsibilities to the best of your ability
