Nechako White Sturgeon
We have three Nechako white sturgeon at the museum and work with the Nechako White Sturgeon Recovery Initiative to educate the public about their conservation.
Did you know white sturgeon can reach up to six metres in length and weigh in at more than 800 kilos? Ours are quite a bit smaller than that.
These prehistoric-looking fish have been around since before the dinosaurs, but only in the last 50 years have their populations reached a critical rate of decline. White sturgeon were officially designated as endangered in 2006. Visit the Nechako White Sturgeon Recovery Initative to learn more about their efforts to protect, restore, and manage the Nechako white sturgeon and its habitat.
