Anthropology in Our Backyards – Walking the Land Back: Reclamation, Settler Spectacles, and Indigenous Healing
Dr. Tara Joly, Assistant Professor, First Nations Studies, Adjunct Professor, Anthropology
What does it mean to “return the land” after oil sands extraction? This talk compares Indigenous Healing Walks with corporate tours on reclaimed land. These two journeys reveal a tension: for Cree-Métis individuals, reclamation must center wâhkôhtowin (kin relationship); for corporations, reclamation becomes a settler spectacle, ignoring sovereignty and healing.
This free public talk is open to everyone. Cash bar available.
Also accessible online through Microsoft Teams.
