Who are we looking for?
We’re looking for creative, enthusiastic, and outgoing individuals to help bring science, engineering, and technology to life for kids in our Science Alliance Summer Day Camps. As a camp instructor, you’ll be leading hands-on experiments, interactive activities, games, and more, making science fun, engaging, and memorable for campers.
You’ll be part of a collaborative, energetic team that works together to create a dynamic and exciting camp experience. This role is perfect for someone who loves working with children, enjoys getting creative with science-based activities, and thrives in a fast-paced, fun environment.

What are the hours?
This is a full-time (40 hours/week) seasonal position, Monday to Friday. A regular workday is 8 hours, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break. Regular shift is 8:30am to 4:30pm. Statutory holidays and occasional extended hours may also be required with notice.
About the job:
The Science Alliance Instructors work as a team to ensure the daily operations of the Science Alliance Summer Day Camp program run effectively and efficiently. This includes the development and delivery of quality child-centred programming enriched in science, engineering, technology, and heritage, timely and accurate completion of administrative tasks, and respectful communication and coordination with participants, parents, and team members. This position reports directly to the Manager – Community Engagement.
The successful applicant will be responsible for the following:
- Daily operations of the Science Alliance Day Camp
- Greeting participants and their families, making them feel welcome
- Development and delivery of innovative, high-quality programming for school-aged camps and special events in the areas of science, heritage, engineering, technology, and innovation
- Providing excellent quality of care for school-aged children from 6-10 years old, ensuring the safety and stewardship of children in programs and the immediate physical environment
- Communicating with families in a respectful, timely, and effective fashion regarding the program and their child and relaying any pertinent information
- Recording all activities, illnesses reported, number of children present, and general observations about the day
- Ensuring all assigned museum spaces are kept clean and organized; for example, surfaces are cleaned and sanitized; all materials and supplies are stored appropriately
- Ensuring the safety and security of confidential client information at all times
- Ensuring that all applicable policies, procedures, and regulations are followed
- Maintaining equipment and supply inventory for summer programs
- Representing the Museum with the utmost integrity, exemplifying the values and mission of our organization
- Aiding with various special events as necessary
- Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, skills, and abilities we are looking for:
- Possess strong oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated aptitude for working with school-aged children in a non-traditional teaching and learning environment
- Solid understanding of culture and heritage as related to science, technology, and innovation
- Strong planning and organizational skills
- Ability to speak and present content to audiences of varying sizes and composition
- Experience working with the public
- Ability to work closely and communicate respectfully with The Exploration Place team at large
- Be a self-motivated team player
- Must be able to work within a team environment, often with minimal supervision
- Have, or be willing to obtain, a valid first aid and/or CPR certificate
- Possess excellent time management and multi-tasking skills
- Be familiar and comfortable with software, including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite programs
- Must show flexibility when asked to perform other tasks as needed
- Be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds on select occasions and stand for long periods
- To comply with funding guidelines, candidates are required to be Canadian citizens or permanent residents, or have refugee status in Canada, be between the ages of 15 and 30, be enrolled in full-time secondary or post-secondary education in the previous school year, and to intend to return to full-time studies in the fall.
